    Greece 2013: Crete 100 years part of Greece

    In 1645, the Ottomans conquered Crete. Numerous uprisings of the population in the 19th century were brutally beaten, until in 1898 France, Russia and the United Kingdom obtained full autonomy for Crete. After the Treaty of London in 1913, Crete became a part of Greece.
